The hummus!

Popular, tasty, healthy and spread all over the world, the Hummus. A great appetizer. Served with bread, foccacia or pita, it’s simply delicious!

Hummus is an arabesque dish/recipe, very well known internationally. It’s healthy, tasty and consistent. Good for both veggies and meat lovers and it’s one of the dishes that you will definetly find it interesting. 🙂

Here are the ingredients:

  • Chickpeas (500 gr)
  • Tahini / Sesame paste (250 gr)
  • Olive oil (3-4 table spoons)
  • Pesto (2 table spoons)
  • Yoghurt (one and half cup)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Bread
  • Baking soda

Kitchen tools:

  • Blender
  • Pot for boiling the chickpeas before blending

How I did it:

Step 1

Boil the chickpeas
I boiled the chickpeas for about 2-3 hours in hot water with a touch of salt and baking soda. Before blending the chickpeas it’s important to have them as moist and soft as possible.

Step 2

Blend the chickpeas
Once the chickpeas got moist enough, I added them in the blender. And started blending until there was no chickpea bean left.

Step 3

Add the other ingredients Once the texture got closer to a paste, I started adding the olive oil and the tahini. Blend again and taste. And then I added 1 spoon of pesto and a little bit of yoghurt. Blend again. And so on…I tasted and added ingredients until I got to the texture and taste I was looking for.

Step 4

Make sure the flavor is there There are quite a lot of people who do not like humus, that’s why you must nail the flavor. So, do not forget about salt and pepper! And taste, taste, taste. Oh, for extra flavour and a punchy one, you can add a little bit of lemon juice also 😉

Step 5

The plating No plate for me here. I just took a slice of bread and dropped a spoon of humus on it. And eat if from one bite only. Yum!
